Let us all eat cake!

I decided yesterday that there's nothing better than spending a sunny summer day indoors, in the kitchen, adding the final chocolate ganache touch to a home-made chocolate banana layer cake. It was a whole lotta effort and time, but oh so worth it (: It turned out to be quite a charming little cake, but I couldn't help myself and had to add a little somethin' somethin' extra to it..with sprinkles, nonetheless!

Here, have a slice..
my treat (;

ps: It's really, REALLY good...if i may say so myself (:

It's already gotten a "If you sold this I'd pay for it" from housemate Chris. But the harshest critic, who happens to call chocolate banana layer cake his all time favourite- IAN...has yet to pass judgement. {fingers crossed, he tries it later tonight}

The next fancy shmancy cake I try to make is going to be no other than black forest.
mmmm.

What did you guys do over the weekend? (:

silver shade polariods

I got two packs of the silver shade polariod film off rhianne, and decided to try it out to see how these monochrome pictures would turn out (I'm saving the last few packs of {expired} regular film for my trip to Paris in july). Despite being quite unpredictable (final colour wise), and these mysterious black splotches appearing on a few of them..I thought they turned out pretty cool.

We took a short train ride out to our new favourite teeny tiny town for some really amazing seafood {lobster & prawn salad mmm}, to visit the best tea-house in Devon and marvel at 3 floors of antiques. I guess living in Devon serves to perpetuate my love affair with cream tea and clotted cream (:

I hope summer is treating you guys well!
much love.

happy things this week

New reading material: Pride and prejudice AND zombies.
{anything with zombies gets my vote (: thanks Ian!}

colouring hair for 9quid. Cheap, even though I wasn't too pleased with how dark it turned out. My natural hair colour isn't even this dark! Well at least it looks alot healthier and glossier now.

painting polariod cameras

Booze + Football

bow ties + peter pan collars

glittery, ruby, dorothy-esque nail colour.

distinctions (: phew. {thank you, Jesus!}

we're still not having any luck with decent weather over here. In fact, there was a sudden 10 second period of heavy rain just a minute ago. I'm guessing our beach plans will have to take a backseat til things get better ): At least there's football to keep us occupied (;

I hope your weekend has been pretty darn fantastic!

i know people who hate sport are going to be annoyed at me...

I reblogged it on my tumblr but figured it was too good to not share on here. So here you go.

uhh huhhh.

new friends & world cup fever

These russian dolls were carried lovingly back from Mother Russia by my best Russian girlfriend for me to add to the ones I have back home. {thanks natalia!} It's funny how all my other russian dolls have been acquired from markets from other parts of the world. And now that I have some authentic ones, I'm happy (:

It's friday already and I hope you guys managed to catch the kick off game of the world cup! {I feel like I'm the only one that cares ):} We were promised an outdoor mega screen by the imperial but because of some technical error they ended up showing tennis on the mega screen and the football match indoors instead. So that was quite a bummer. But we enjoyed the South Africa vs Mexico game anyway.

Tomorrow night will be THE match to watch. It's England vs USA. And I'm sorry but as much as I love my american friends, I HAVE to support England! We'll be having a little house party over at a friends' to catch the match, the pubs are not ideal for a match of such epic proportions...we want to avoid any boozy/overly-passionate locals.

We were actually joking about bringing a huge sign that read: FOOTBALL vs SOCCER to a pub for the game. But that'll be like attempting suicide (;

so have a fantastic weekend all, and to those of you who couldn't care less..try for the sake of your partners/spouses (;

happy weekend!

Just sayin'

potential etsy talk

I've been pondering about a particular venture for awhile now...and its name is etsy.
To be honest I only start browsing through etsy after getting to know authors of some pretty amazing blogs who happen to have little online etsy shops. My favourite thing to look at on etsy has got to be prints, whether them being photography prints or works of original art. And I guess if I had to choose, Diana and Kate's would have to be my favourite. Many pieces of their work are proudly displayed in my room (:

Lately I've been looking at the number of photographs I've accumulated....whether it be instants or those I've managed with one of my many toy cameras. And during that time the word etsy keeps popping into my head. Sometimes I think..hmmm, I think someone might very well like this framed on one of their walls in their home. But at other times I think that I've got nothing worth charging money for, nothing good enough for me (in good conscience) to put up for sale. In fact, I feel guilty for even thinking about entering the world of etsy as a seller. It's almost as if I'm trying to wrestle away potential buyers from the other 4902674029852 bloggers that have etsys as well. Plus who knows what the reception will be like. I guess I'm hesitant because if I really want to, I'd like to do it well..even if I don't really know where the heck to begin. The last thing I want is to put up items I don't personally love, at prices that don't correspond to the quality of work.

So while I'm in this pondering phase, I figured I'd ask you guys for help/advice. If you have an etsy, what made you start? And what are some key things I should know about running at etsy shop?

I guess if I do decide to go ahead and take the plunge...in addition to selling photography prints, I'll try and put up some original painting prints as well, those I feel are of a certain standard.

So let me know what you think (: Both as a seller (if you happen to be one) and a buyer. I could really use some guidance right now!

You guys are the best!

paint

{click on all images to enlarge}

I am by no means an artist, although I wish I had the artistic ability of the many crazy talented people I know, friends (you know who you are), family and strangers included. My Mom especially is ridiculously gifted at watercolour painting, something I've yet to grasp. And as much as I wish those gifts rubbed off on me, I'm happy to simply dabble. So when I came across a store having a massive clearout, with an entire easel painting set for a mere 15 quid (foldable easel + handle, acrylic paints, brushes, pallette, sketching pencils and canvases included), I jumped at the chance to dabble. And I think I might start dabbling more, after all there's nothing like getting all down and dirty with a palette full of colour!

Do any of you paint? And if so, do you have any tips you'd like to share? I'd be thoroughly appreciative of any (:

Have a great weekend, all!
ps: for those of you being abused by the unforgiving sun, remember the sunscreen! There was an implosion of freckles on my face after just one afternoon in the sun..it was scary. Lesson learnt (:

a bike ride

a two hour long bike ride into the countryside was exactly the thing I needed to thoroughly enjoy this glorious weather we've been having.

I couldn't decide what I liked more, the perpetual wind in my hair/face or the most amazing fish and chips I've ever eaten.

I'm thinking it's probably the latter (: We are so riding our bikes down to Topsham again some time soon. I hear they have one of the best tea-houses in devon.

My weekend will be spent going on one of the local tours here in Exeter, a little shopping and maybe a game of tennis...before indulging in more painting fun. I'll show you guys what I came up with just the other day sometime soon (:

What do you guys have planned for this weekend?
